China's crude steel output in Aug'21 was at 83.24 million tonnes (mn t), a y-o-y decrease of 13.2%, as per data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The national average daily output of crude steel in August was 2.685 mn t, a decrease of 4% from the previous month; Over Jan-Aug'21, the output was at 733.02 mn t, a y-o-y increase of 5.3%.
Pig iron: In Aug'21, China's pig iron output was 71.53 mn t, down 11% y-o-y. The average daily pig iron output in August was 2.31 mn t, down 2% m-o-m. From January to August, China's pig iron output was 605.38 mn t, up 0.6% y-o-y.
Steel output: In August, China's steel output was at 108.8 mn t, down 10% y-o-y. The average daily output of steel in August was 3.510 mn t, down 2% from the previous month. From January to August, steel output was 91.33 mn t, up 7% y-o-y.
Power generation in Jan-Aug up 11%
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in Aug'21, 738.3 billion kWh of electricity was generated in China, a y-o-y marginal increase of 0.2% or 23.82 billion kWh. From January to August, power generation was 5,389.4 billion kWh, a y-o-y increase of 11%. This was an increase of 11.6% over the same period in 2019, and an average increase of 5.7% over the two years.
In terms of generating categories, in August, the growth rate of thermal power, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power all slowed down, while the drop in hydropower increased slightly. Among them, thermal power increased by 0.3% y-o-y, and based on August 2019, the two-year average growth was 3.2%.
Hydropower generation decreased by 4.7%, and the two-year average growth was 1.9%.
Nuclear power increased by 10%, while the two-year average growth was 5.5%.
Wind power generation increased by 7%, an average growth rate of 12.7% over two years, while solar power generation growth was at 8.5%, an average growth rate of 5.3% in two years.
