China's Steel Imports Decrease in First 8 Months of CY21

China's steel imports decreased 17% in the first 8 months of CY21 (Jan-Aug'21) to 9.46 million tonnes (mn t) when compared to the same period last year. The country's steel imports increased by 95% in Jan'21, 89% in Feb'21, 16% in Mar'21 and 17% in Apr'21. From May'21, however, the country's steel imports started declining. Imports decreased by 6% in May'21, 33% in Jun'21, 60% in Jul'21, and 53% in Aug'21. It is to be noted that in CY20, China's steel imports increased by 64% to 20.2 mn t from 12.3 mn t in CY19.
