India's Ferrous Scrap Imports Down 12% in H1 CY'21

India's ferrous scrap imports volume decreased by 12% y-o-y to 2.04 mn t in H1 CY'21 from 2.32 mn t in H1 CY'20. The highest import volumes were recorded in Jan'21 at 0.45 mn t. Ferrous scrap imports fell mainly because Indian steel mills gave preference to domestic cost-effective substitutes like - scrap and sponge iron. United Arab Emirates emerged as the largest exporter of ferrous scrap to India in Jan-Jun'21 with 0.64 mn t.
